NOVENA TO THE UNITED HEARTS

The Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary

Ave Maria!

Dear friends,

We wholeheartedly invite you to pray together in the form of a novena to prepare for the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. We begin on June 18. Through this novena, we also want to bring you closer to these two revelations, which are intimately connected and extremely important—not only for us as a community—but in fact are the most important revelations the Church has received. Both revelations have not only a personal dimension but also concern the destiny of the Church and the world. They speak directly of the reality of heaven and hell, of peace and war. This is happening today before our very eyes. These revelations offer us all a concrete tool to appease God so that He may show us mercy.

In this novena, we want to pray that the Heart of Jesus may reign in our hearts, in the whole Church, in every family, and in every country through the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Jesus and Mary are searching for hearts that love them and are completely united with them, to sanctify themselves and to participate in the mission of saving souls.

Every day at 3:00 PM, our community will pray this novena in the church in Oskarström, before the Most Blessed Sacrament. We will send you the texts for reflection for each day. You are warmly welcome to come and pray with us, or join us spiritually whenever it suits you.

"The Holy Hearts of Jesus and Mary are so harmonious and united that one cannot enter into one without entering into the other, with the difference being that the Heart of Jesus only receives souls that are completely pure, while the Heart of Mary purifies through the grace it receives for them. Mary’s Heart leads souls who are not completely pure to a state where they can be received by the Heart of Jesus."

(St. Margaret Mary Alacoque)

Introduction

Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, born in 1647 in France, was a young nun in the Order of the Visitation in Paray-le-Monial when she received the grace of seeing the Lord Jesus, who revealed to her the devotion to His Heart. He asked that it be spread throughout the Church because:

"This devotion is the last offer of His love and will be the only salvation for people in the end times."

Two hundred and fifty years later, in the years 1916–1917, in Fatima, three little shepherds—Saint Francisco, Jacinta, and Lucia—received revelations from the Angel and from the Mother of God. The Angel reminded them of the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and the Mother of God asked them to establish the devotion to her Immaculate Heart and to spread it. If her request is fulfilled:

"many souls will be saved from hell and peace will come to the world."

Both revelations contain promises of great graces for us all.

Let us thank the good God for giving us knowledge of the mysteries of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

The most beautiful prayer to the United Hearts is the Rosary.

Therefore, we pray the Rosary each day during this novena and meditate on the novena text for the day.

The intention of the novena is Jesus’ request to Sister Lucia:

...that the Church may spread and place the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary alongside the devotion to My Sacred Heart."

Day OneA Call to Love

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength." (Mark 12:30)

Text to meditate on from the revelations:

"One day, while I was praying before the Blessed Sacrament, I felt completely filled with His divine presence. I surrendered my heart to the power of His love. He let me rest a long while on His divine breast and revealed to me the wonders of His love and the ineffable mysteries of His Most Sacred Heart. He said:

'My divine Heart is so passionately ablaze with love for mankind—especially for you—that I can no longer contain these burning flames of mercy. I want them to be spread and made known to people through you. I want to enrich them with My treasures, which I will show you—treasures full of sanctifying and saving grace, necessary to rescue them from eternal damnation. To fulfill this great plan, I have chosen you, unworthy and unlearned, so that all this may be accomplished through Me.'

Then He asked me to give Him my heart, and I begged Him to take it. He did so and placed it in His adorable Heart, where it looked like a tiny speck of dust consumed by His burning flame. Then He took it out in the form of a living flame in the shape of a heart and placed it back where He had taken it from..."

(A vision St. Margaret Mary received on December 27, 1673)

"Oh, if I could place into every human heart the flame that I have in my breast, which burns me and makes me love the Heart of Jesus and the Heart of Mary so much! I love telling Jesus over and over again how much I love Him! When I tell Him this many times, it feels as if there’s a flame in my heart, but it doesn’t burn me!"

(Little Saint Jacinta)

"I would like to ask you to take us to Heaven," Lucia said to the Mother of God.

"Yes! I will soon take Jacinta and Francisco. But you must remain here for a while longer. Jesus wants to use you to make Me known and loved. He wants to spread the devotion to My Immaculate Heart in the world. I promise salvation to those who embrace this devotion, and these souls will be loved by God like flowers that I adorn His throne with."

"Shall I remain here alone?" Lucia asked sadly.

"No, My daughter! Are you suffering because of this? Do not lose heart. I will never forsake you. My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the path that leads you to God."

Once again, she opened her hands and gave the children the same light that enveloped her. In the light, they saw themselves within God. Jacinta and Francisco looked as if they were being lifted up to Heaven, and Lucia was spread over the earth. Before the palm of the right hand of the Mother of God, a heart surrounded by thorns was seen, which appeared to pierce the heart. They understood that it was the Immaculate Heart of Mary, calling for reparation for the sins and crimes of mankind.

(From the apparition on June 13, 1917, in Fatima)

"I will soon go to Heaven. You will stay here to tell the world that God wants to spread devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in the world. When you are to speak of this, do not hide yourself. Tell everyone that God gives us graces through the Immaculate Heart of Mary; that people should ask her for them; and that the Heart of Jesus wants the Immaculate Heart of Mary to be honored alongside His. Tell them also to pray to the Immaculate Heart of Mary for peace, because God has entrusted peace to her."

(Little Saint Jacinta reminded Lucia before her death of her mission from Jesus)

"The Hearts of Jesus and Mary want to show great mercy to the world through you."

(From the Angel’s apparition in 1916 in Fatima)

Now pray the Rosary for the intention of the novena.

Day Two – Acceptance of Suffering

“If anyone wants to follow Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.” (Matthew 16:24)

Texts from Revelations for Meditation:

“The Divine Heart appeared to me as if on a throne of flames, more radiant than the sun and transparent like crystal, bearing its venerable wound. It was surrounded by a crown of thorns, symbolizing the insults it had received because of our sins. Above it rose a cross, indicating that already from the first moments of the Incarnation (...) the cross was embedded in this Heart, and from the very beginning it was filled with the bitterness of humiliations, poverty, pain, and contempt that His holy human nature would endure in His life and Passion.”
(from the second revelation to St. Margaret Mary)

My beloved, so that you may know that the great grace I have given you is not an illusion but the foundation of all the other graces I will bestow upon you, the wound in your side—though I have already closed it—will pain you until the end of your days. And although until now you were only My servant, from now on you shall be called the beloved disciple of My Most Sacred Heart.”
(from the first revelation to St. Margaret Mary)

“I am the Guardian Angel of Portugal. Above all, accept and bear with submission the suffering that God will send you.”
(from the second apparition of the Angel in Fatima)

“Do you wish to offer yourselves to God, to endure all the sufferings He will send you, as reparation for the sins by which He is offended and as a plea for the conversion of sinners?” – asked Our Lady.
“Yes, we do!” – answered Lucia.
“Then you will have to suffer much, but the grace of God will be your strength!”
As she spoke these last words, Mary opened her hands for the first time, transmitting to us a light so intense, as if it were a reflection coming from her hands. This light penetrated our hearts and innermost souls, allowing us to see ourselves in God, who is that light, more clearly than in the best mirror.
(from the apparition of May 13, 1917, in Fatima)

“And on every night from Thursday to Friday, I will let you share in that mortal sorrow which I felt in the Garden of Gethsemane. And in order to accompany Me in the humble prayer I then offered to My Father amid all My anguish, you shall rise between eleven o’clock and midnight, and remain with Me for one hour, kneeling with your face to the ground. You shall do this to appease divine justice, imploring mercy both for sinners and to in some way mitigate the bitterness I felt because of the abandonment by My apostles, to whom I had to reproach: ‘Could you not watch with Me one hour?’”
(Words of Jesus to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque during the third revelation)

This spiritual practice — prayer every Thursday from 11:00 p.m. to midnight — is called the Holy Hour in the Church.
It can be observed individually at home or in church before the Blessed Sacrament.
It is one of the most important devotional practices to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Now pray the Rosary for the intention of the novena.

Day Three – The Heart of Jesus Pierced by the Lance

"One of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. He who saw it has testified, and his testimony is true. He knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe".
(Jn 19:34-35)

Texts from Revelations for Meditation:
“Once, while I was adoring the Blessed Sacrament, Jesus Christ, my sweet Teacher, stood before me, all radiant with glory, with five wounds shining like five suns; from His holy humanity flames were shooting out everywhere, but especially from His venerable breast, similar to a hearth. After opening it, He revealed to me His Heart, infinitely worthy of love and adoration, which was the living source of these flames. It was then that He revealed to me the inexpressible wonders of His love and showed me how immeasurably He loved men from whom He received only ingratitude and lack of understanding".

"This pains Me more – He told me – than all the sufferings of My Passion... However, if men gave Me even a little love in return, I would consider that all I had done for them was little, and I would like, if only it were possible, to do even more for them.” (from the 3rd revelation of St. Margaret)

"And He explained to me that what made Him create the plan to show humanity His Heart, with all the treasures of love, grace, mercy, sanctification and salvation contained in It, was His ardent desire to be loved by people and to save them from the damnation to which Satan pushes so many of them" (from the 2nd revelation of St. Margaret)

"Above the olive trees, they saw a young man about fourteen or fifteen years old, very beautiful, white as snow and almost transparent like crystal in the sunlight."
- I am the Angel of Peace - He said
- Pray with me:

"My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You! I beg pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope, and do not love You.”.

-This is how you should pray. The Hearts of Jesus and Mary listen attentively to your requests"
. (from the first apparition of the Angel in Fatima, 1916)

"And we saw in an immense light that is God: 'something similar to how people appear in a mirror when they pass in front of it' a Bishop dressed in White 'we had the impression that it was the Holy Father'. Other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious going up a steep mountain, at the top of which there was a big Cross of rough-hewn trunks as of a cork-tree with the bark; before reaching there the Holy Father passed through a big city half in ruins and half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on his way; having reached the top of the mountain, on his knees at the foot of the big Cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows at him, and in the same way there died one after another the other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious, and various lay people of different ranks and positions. Beneath the two arms of the Cross there were two Angels each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand, in which they gathered up the blood of the Martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God."
(from the text of the Third Secret of Fatima)

Prayer

Recitation of the Rosary for the intentions of the novena

Before the Rosary, three times the Angel's prayer

"My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You! I beg pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope, and do not love You.”.

Day Four

The Heart of Jesus crowned with thorns and the Heart of Mary pierced by thorns,
united in suffering

Texts for reflection:

The wounded heart of man – the thorns of our sins

"For from within, out of the human heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, debauchery, envy, slander, arrogance, and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person."
(Mark 7:21–23)

Our Lady, with a sorrowful expression on her face, added:
“Let men not offend God any more, for He is already too much offended.”
(Fatima apparition, October 13, 1917)

The Suffering Heart of Jesus

“The Divine Heart appeared to me as on a throne of flames, brighter than the sun and transparent as crystal, with its venerable wound. It was surrounded by a crown of thorns, symbolizing the insults it receives from our sins. Above it rose a cross...”
(from the second apparition to St. Margaret Alacoque)

“Behold this Heart which has loved men so deeply, yet receives in return only ingratitude, contempt, and forgetfulness. This causes Me greater suffering than all I endured during My Passion—so much so that, if only I were loved even a little, I would regard all I have suffered for mankind as nothing, and I would, if it were possible, suffer even more for their sake. But they repay all My efforts to do them good with coldness and disdain...”
(from the third apparition to St. Margaret Alacoque)

The Suffering Heart of Mary

"Our Lady opened her hands, as she had done during the previous two apparitions, and through them she transmitted a light that radiated forth. In this light we saw ourselves as in a mirror, and we saw especially what God is. Jacinta and Francisco seemed to be in the part of the light that rose toward Heaven, and I (sister Lucia) in the part that spread over the earth. In the palm of Our Lady’s right hand was a Heart, surrounded by thorns, which appeared to pierce it. We understood that this was the Immaculate Heart of Mary, outraged by the sins of humanity, and asking for reparation."
(from  apparition at Fatima 13 jun )

"I (s.Lucia) saw Our Lady with the Child Jesus at her side, in a bright light. Our Lady placed her hand on my shoulder and showed me her Heart, surrounded by thorns, which she held in her other hand.

The Child Jesus said:

“Have compassion on the Heart of your Most Holy Mother, which is surrounded by thorns with which ungrateful men continually wound it, and there is no one to make an act of reparation to remove them.”

Prayer

Before the Rosary, three times the Angel's prayer"My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You! I beg pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope, and do not love You.”.

Recitation of the Rosary for the intentions of the novena

The intention of the novena is Jesus’ request to Sister Lucia:

...that the Church may spread and place the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary alongside the devotion to My Sacred Heart."

Day Five

Corpus Christi – The Body and Blood of Christ

“I am the living bread which came down from heaven;
if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever;
and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh.”

(John 6:51)

Texts for meditation

Communion of Reparation

“As soon as we arrived there, we knelt down and, with our foreheads touching the ground, we began to repeat the words of the Angel’s prayer: ‘O my God, I believe in You, I adore You, I hope in You, and I love You, etc.!’

Suddenly, we saw an unknown light shining above us. We stood up to see what was happening, and we saw an Angel holding a chalice in his left hand. Above the chalice was a Host, from which drops of blood were falling into it. Leaving the chalice and Host suspended in the air, the Angel knelt beside us and three times we repeated with him the prayer:

‘Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore Thee profoundly. I offer Thee the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences whereby He is offended. And, through the infinite merits of His Most Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of Thee the conversion of poor sinners.’

Then, rising, he again took the chalice and the Host into his hands. He gave me the Host, and the contents of the chalice he gave to Jacinta and Francisco to drink, saying at the same time:

Receive the Body and drink the Blood of Jesus Christ, horribly outraged by ungrateful men. Make reparation for their crimes and console your God.’

Then he again bowed down to the ground and repeated with us three times the same prayer: ‘Most Holy Trinity...’ and disappeared.

Moved by the supernatural power that enveloped us, we imitated the Angel in everything: we knelt with deep reverence as he had, and repeated the prayers he had recited. The strength of the presence of God was so intense that it nearly completely absorbed and annihilated our sense of self.”

(From the third apparition of the Angel at Fatima, 1916)

“At least you, give Me this joy, and as far as you are able, make reparation for their ingratitude (...). Above all, you shall receive Holy Communion as often as obedience permits..., and in particular, receive Me every First Friday of the month.”

(From the third apparition to Saint Margaret Mary)

Communion of Reparation on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Behold this Heart, which has so loved men that It spared nothing, even exhausting and consuming Itself, to give them proof of Its love. In return, I receive from the majority nothing but ingratitude, shown through their irreverence, sacrileges, coldness, and contempt for Me in this Sacrament of love. But what pains Me most is that even hearts consecrated to Me behave in this way.

This is why I ask of you that the Friday following the octave of Corpus Christi be set aside as a special feast in honor of My Heart, and that on this day, Holy Communion be received in reparation for the offenses It suffers when exposed on the altars. And I promise you that My Heart will open itself to pour out in abundance the influence of Its divine love on those who thus honor It.” (From the third and fourth apparitions to Saint Margaret Mary)

Communion of Reparation on the First Fridays – The Devotion of the Nine First Fridays

“I promise you, in the excessive mercy of My Heart, that My all-powerful love will grant to all who receive Holy Communion on the First Fridays of nine consecutive months (with the intention of reparation) the grace of final repentance: they shall not die in My displeasure, nor without receiving the sacraments, and My Heart shall be their secure refuge in that last hour.”

(From the third apparition to Saint Margaret Mary)

Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays – The Devotion of the Five First Saturdays

“When, one night, you see an unknown light in the sky, know that it is the great sign God gives you that His punishment upon the world for its many crimes is near – war, famine, and persecution of the Church and the Holy Father.

To prevent this, I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart, and for the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays.”

(July 13, 1917 – Fatima)

“My daughter, look at My Heart, surrounded with thorns with which ungrateful men constantly wound It by their blasphemies and ingratitude. At least you, strive to console Me. Announce in My name that I promise to assist, at the hour of death, with the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, for five consecutive months, on the First Saturdays:

  1. Go to Confession,

  2. Receive Holy Communion,

  3. Recite five decades of the Rosary,

  4. And keep Me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making reparation to Me.”

(Words of Our Lady to Sister Lucia, December 10, 1925)

In practice, Confession may be made earlier, but it is necessary to form the intention of making reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, as all four conditions are to be fulfilled with that same intention.

Prayer

Before rosary pray 3 times:

‘Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore Thee profoundly. I offer Thee the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences whereby He is offended. And, through the infinite merits of His Most Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of Thee the conversion of poor sinners.’

Recitation of the Rosary for the intentions of the novena

The intention of the novena is Jesus’ request to Sister Lucia:

"...that the Church may spread and place the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary alongside the devotion to My Sacred Heart."

Day six

Heart of Jesus obedient to death

Texts for meditation

The Heart of Jesus, who loved to the end

“They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
Sanctify them in the truth; thy word is truth.
As thou didst send me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.
And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be consecrated in truth.”

(John 17:16–19)

By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us;
and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren
.”

(1 John 3:16)

This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

(John 15:12–13)

“Do you wish to offer yourselves to God, to endure all the sufferings He will send you, as reparation for the sins by which He is offended and as a plea for the conversion of sinners?” – asked Our Lady. (13 may Fatima)

“He explained to me that what moved Him to reveal His Heart to mankind—with all its treasures of love, grace, mercy, sanctification and salvation—was His ardent desire to be loved by humanity and to save them from eternal damnation, to which so many are led by Satan’s deceptions.
Therefore, Christ desires that those who choose to offer Him their love, honor, and adoration be richly blessed with the treasures of the Divine Heart…”

“Our Lord revealed... the treasures of love and grace for those who consecrate and offer themselves to Him, and these treasures are so great that I am unable to express them...”
(Revelation to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque)

Day Seven

The Immaculate Heart of Mary – The Ark of Salvation before God's

Chastisement

Texts for Meditation

The reality of hell and war as a consequence of our sins.

And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
(Matt 10:28)

“...Our Lady once again opened Her hands, as She had done during the two previous months. The light seemed to penetrate the earth, and we saw something like a sea of fire. Plunged in this fire were demons and souls in human form, transparent like burning embers, all blackened or bronze, floating about in the flames. The figures were being tossed up with great force by the flames, which emerged from within them, and then fell back on all sides like sparks in a huge fire – weightless, without balance or control – amid screams and groans of pain and despair that horrified us and made us tremble with fear. (I must have cried out when I saw it – ‘Ah!’ – and people say they heard me.)

The demons could be distinguished from human souls by their terrifying and repulsive appearance, like unknown hideous animals, yet transparent like glowing coals.

Terrified, we looked up to Our Lady for help, and She said to us, kindly and sadly:

You have seen hell, where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish devotion to My Immaculate Heart in the world. If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved, and there will be peace.

The war is coming to an end [First World War], but if people do not cease offending God, a worse war will break out during the pontificate of Pius XI. When you see a night illuminated by an unknown light [she referred to the extraordinary aurora borealis seen during the night of January 25–26, 1938, throughout Europe, including Poland, which Lucia always considered the promised sign from heaven], know that this is the great sign given by God that the world is about to be punished for its sins, by means of war, famine, and persecutions of the Church and of the Holy Father.

To prevent this, I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart and for the Communion of reparation on the First Saturdays.

If My requests are heeded, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace. If not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred; the Holy Father will have much to suffer; several nations will be annihilated.

In the end, My Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to Me, and she will be converted, and a period of peace will be granted to the world. In Portugal, the dogma of the faith will always be preserved, etc.

Do not tell this to anyone; you may tell it only to Francisco. When you pray the Rosary, say after each mystery:

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of Thy mercy.

(Revelation of July 13, 1917 in Fatima, first part of the Secret of Fatima)

“...We saw, to the left of Our Lady and a little higher up, an Angel with a flaming sword in his left hand. It flashed and emitted flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire. But the flames were extinguished as they touched the radiance that Our Lady emitted from Her right hand toward him. Pointing to the earth with his right hand, the Angel cried out in a loud voice:

Penance, Penance, Penance!’

(Revelation of July 13, 1917 in Fatima, excerpt from the third part of the Secret of Fatima)

Beneath the two arms of the Cross there were two Angels each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand, in which they gathered up the blood of the Martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God."(from the text of the Third Secret of Fatima)

"Without having seen him you love him; though you do not now see him you believe in him and rejoice with unutterable and exalted joy. As the outcome of your faith you obtain the salvation of your souls."
(1 Peter 1:8–9)

Day Eight

The peace of the world and of your country has been entrusted by God to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

World peace depends on the conversion of Russia

"The punishment for the world’s many sins is near – there will be war, famine, persecution of the Church and of the Holy Father. To prevent this, I will come to ask for the consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart and for the Communion of reparation on the First Saturdays.

If My requests are heeded, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace; if not, her godless propaganda will spread its errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will suffer much, and several nations will be annihilated. But in the end, My Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to Me, and she will be converted, and a period of peace will be granted to the world. In Portugal, the dogma of the Faith will always be preserved."

(Apparition of July 13, 1917)

Sister Lucia repeated in letters to her spiritual director, to bishops, and to the Pope, that in His providence, God has placed the peace of the world in the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This devotion has two essential elements (similar to the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus): the consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and reparation to Her Heart by receiving Holy Communion on the First Saturdays of the month. At that time, it especially concerned Russia, which was so dangerous in its atheistic and communist ideology. Mary warned us that if what She asked for — the consecration of Russia and the First Saturday devotion — was not done, a more terrible war would follow, World War II, and Russia would spread its errors throughout the world. And that is exactly what happened.

Just before the war, on June 20, 1939, Sister Lucia wrote:

"The war or peace of the world depends on the practice of the First Saturday devotion and the consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary."
(Documents from Fatima)

Portugal, which in 1931 consecrated the nation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, was spared the civil war that ravaged Spain. Before the Second World War, the act of consecration was renewed, and the First Saturday devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary was officially approved, and the war did not reach that country.

It was not until March 25, 1984, that Pope John Paul II consecrated Russia and the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary exactly as Mary had asked, fulfilling the first part of Her request. Shortly afterward, the communist Soviet Union miraculously collapsed, Russia began to return to God, and we were spared a nuclear war. This was the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, just as the Mother of God had foretold in Fatima on July 13, 1917:

"In the end, My Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to Me, and she shall be converted, and a period of peace will be granted to the world."

In view of the war in Ukraine, initiated by Russia, we may assume that this period of peace is coming to an end. Russia has returned to war and persecution. One may then ask: why did this happen? Has the second part of Her request been fulfilled? Sadly, it has not.

Even before the Second World War, Sister Lucia received an explanation of the role that this triumph would play for the entire Church. On May 18, 1939, Jesus told her that the consecration of Russia would mark the beginning of the spread of the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Jesus said:

"I want My Church to recognize that the consecration of Russia is the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, so that the devotion to the Immaculate Heart may be placed alongside the devotion to My Sacred Heart."

(Documents on Fatima, p. 5)

To this day, the second part of Mary’s request concerning the First Saturdays, which is the main part of this devotion, has not been fulfilled. Few bishops have embraced and promoted it. It is still relatively unknown and rarely practiced, even though Sister Lucia dedicated her entire life to spreading it.

Saint Jacinta said on her deathbed to Lucia:

"Tell everyone that God grants graces through the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Urge them to ask graces from Her, and that the Heart of Jesus desires to be honored together with the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Encourage them to ask for peace from the Immaculate Heart of Mary, for it is to Her that the Lord has entrusted the peace of the world."
(Documents from Fatima, Alexandria, SD, 1994, p. 12)

"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you.
Not as the world gives do I give to you.
Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid
."

(John 14:27)

Prayer:

Before the Rosary, pray three times:

Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I adore You profoundly. I offer You the Most Precious Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges, and indifference by which He is offended. And through the infinite merits of His Most Sacred Heart and of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg You for the conversion of poor sinners.

Now pray the Rosary for the intention of this novena:

"...that the Church may extend and place devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary alongside the devotion to My Sacred Heart."

Day Nine

Enter the Ark of Salvation – The Immaculate Heart of Mary

Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

  • Personal consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

  • Practicing and spreading the devotion of the First Saturdays of the month

  • Praying the Rosary daily

"I want you to come here on the 13th of next month. Continue to pray the Rosary every day to Our Lady of the Rosary, to obtain peace in the world and the end of the war, for only SHE can obtain these graces."
(Revelation of Our Lady, May 13, 1917, Fatima)

Our Lady repeated her request to pray the Rosary daily at all six apparitions.

  • Offering sacrifices to make reparation for one’s sins, for the conversion of sinners, and to accept suffering

"I am the Angel of Peace, pray with me:
My God, I believe in You, I adore You, I trust in You, and I love You. I ask You to forgive those who do not believe in You, who do not adore You, who do not trust You, and who do not love You."

This is how you should pray. The Hearts of Jesus and Mary listen attentively to your prayers.
(First Angelic Apparition, Fatima 1916)

"What are you doing? Pray much! The Hearts of Jesus and Mary want to show great mercy to the world through you. Offer constantly to the Most High prayers and sacrifices. Make an offering of everything you can as reparation for the sins by which He is offended, and for the conversion of sinners. In this way, you will ensure peace for your country. I am the Guardian Angel of Portugal. Above all, accept and bear with submission the suffering that God will send you."
(Second Angelic Apparition, Fatima 1916)

"Offer yourselves for sinners and say often, especially when making sacrifices:
O Jesus, I do this out of love for You, for the conversion of sinners, and as reparation for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary."
(Revelation of Our Lady, Fatima, July 13, 1917)

"Pray, pray much, make sacrifices for sinners, for many souls go to eternal damnation because there is no one who offers themselves and prays for them."
(Revelation of Our Lady, Fatima, August 1917)

Brothers and sisters!

On the last day of the novena, we turn to you, devotees of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary. Our Blessed Mother Mary promised that by the devotion of the First Saturdays and spreading the veneration of Her Immaculate Heart, we can change the fate of the world and stop the unimaginable suffering that war brings. Let us not wait until bombs fall on our homes. Today Russia poses a real threat to us, and another war threatens the whole world! These are no longer distant prophecies but a reality unfolding before our eyes. Let us do all in our power to ensure that this devotion is embraced by the faithful and confirmed in the Church.

Sister Lucia said:

"Those who live the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
will be truly converted and consecrated to God,
they will be the generation that will conquer evil."

"Brothers:
Be strong in the Lord – in the power of His might.
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can stand against the devil’s schemes.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood,
but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world,
against spiritual wickedness in high places
.
Therefore, put on the full armor of God,
that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth,
and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace.
Above all, take the shield of faith,
with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God –
praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit,
being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints."

(Ephesians 6:10–20)
